Vacation

Sat May 28, 2005 13:29 (UTC -5)

Ah, here I am at the family vacation spot on Hutchinson Island in Fort Pierce, Florida. It’s a condo that my great-aunt owns; for some of the year she rents it out, and for the rest she lets family members stay. I’ve done auto-posted entries in the past, but this is my first post live from vacation.

Fort Pierce received a direct hit from not one, but two hurricanes last year. Hurricane Frances made landfall at Sewall’s Point, just south of here. Several weeks later, Hurricane Jeanne made landfall on this very island. And I thought we got hit bad back at home! Some condos are still boarded up, and the landscape is littered with dead trees. I’ll have to post some pictures when I get home.

On this year’s excursion to the condo, we’re taking advantage of the three-day Memorial Day weekend. I can’t remember the last time I went on vacation during the school year, and now I know why: on this last weekend before the end of school, I’ve been saddled with homework. Thank you, Miss Grant. (I’m sure she’s a Miss because I couldn’t imagine anyone marrying her.)

Anyway, other than hitting the books, I’ll be relaxing on the beach and whatnot. Good thing the condo has a private beach. That’s not for my sake, it’s for everyone else’s.

Forget Google! I’ve found the best search engine yet: Pupna. It delivers exactly what you’re looking for, and nothing else. Try it out.
